SPOTLIGHT on NOVELISTS, DIRECTORS, ACTORS, MUSICIANS
bringing their creative talents to Comic Books / Graphic Novels
in the latter half of 2011 / early 2012

Plenty of novelists, musicians and TV & movie writers/creators/actors are realizing comic books and graphic novels offer a new creative outlet for them and are taking advantage of it.  Here's a sampling of some, including both adaptations of existing work and new original stories.

-- Joshua Jackson, star of the hit TV show Fringe, brings us a one-shot in March called "Beyond The Fringe".

-- Science-fiction veterans Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, best known for their work on television's Stargate franchise and the new Transporter: The Series, create a new and exciting universe at Dark Horse Comics with "Dark Matter", starting in January.

-- In December, New York Times best-selling author and Eisner-nominated creator of iZombie, Chris Roberson, delivers a magical new 6-issue series: "Memorial".

-- The magical world of New York Times best-selling authors PC Cast & Kristin Cast comes to comics in November with "House of Night", a 5-issue series.

-- From the mind of musician Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, The Nightwatchman), in September we get "Orchid", a gritty series from Dark Horse Comics.

-- Multiple New York Times Best-Selling Author Anne Rice brings one of her richest stories to IDW with "Servant Of The Bones", a 6-part series starting in August!

-- Producer, Writer, Director McG's Wonderland Sound and Vision (Terminator: Salvation, Human Target, Supernatural and more) teams up with Aspen Comics to bring us "Haunted City", starting in August.

-- Radical Publishing is launching one of their first ongoing series, "Damaged", with their partner, Sam Worthingon (Avatar, Clash of the Titans, Terminator: Salvation) and Full Clip Productions.  The series is due to start in August.

-- Releasing in July, Sea Lion Books brings us "Pariah", a 4-issue series written by Aron Warner, an award-winning movie producer at PDI/Dreamworks (he received an Academy Award for Shrek).  He also produced and supervised on many hit films including Independence Day, Alien: Resurrection, True Lies, Titanic and Antz.  In addition to bringing us "Pariah", he and partners are developing a slate of live action feature films and television shows.

-- Soliciting in May, should be released in July, is "Crawl To Me" #1 in a 4-issue series that's written and illustrated by musician Alan Robert (Life of Agony).  He also wrote another comic last year called "Wire Hangers".

New Orleans is the most haunted city in America: a town of centuries-old ghosts and newly drowned spirits; where vampires, voodoo spirits and loups-garous make their home. Ruling over this all are the powerful Voodoo Queens, whose influence stretches into politics, business and crime as they maintain a delicate balance between the mortal and supernatural worlds.   But in the aftermath of Katrina, all that has changed, for someone or something has murdered the Voodoo Queen and most of her court. The number one suspect is Dominique Laveau, a grad student at Tulane who is about to discover that her entire life has been a lie. Malleus Maleficarum GN
    MALLEUS MALEFICARUM:

A CARTOON GUIDE TO CATCHING WITCHES GN

written by Heinrich Kramer & Various PLUS ART BY LOCAL ARTIST MIKE ROSEN

In 1487 Heinrich Kramer and Jacob Sprenger wrote the Malleus Maleficarum,
the premiere manual for exposing, capturing, prosecuting and burning witches
used by every right-thinking European magistrate of the late middle ages.
Cartoonist Mike Rosen's tongue-in-cheek adaptation of this uplifting tome
answers all those nagging questions: Do witches kill newborn babies for use
in their rituals? Can they turn men into beasts?

-- We're spotlighting this clever book again given that the art is done by local
    resident, Mike Rosen!!
